William H. (Punch) Hands, 96, of Wayne City, died at 12:10 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bernice Solomon in Wayne City.
Mr. Hands was a veteran of the Spanish American War.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Zion Methodist church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Farnsworth cemetery. Members of the Wayne City American Legion will conduct graveside military services.
The body will be lie in state at the Richardson Chapel in Wayne City where friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today.
Mr. Hands was born Aug. 12, 1865 in Wayne County, the son of James and Ruth (Cope) Hands.
He was married to Cordia Austin, who preceded him in death in 1948.
Survivors include three sons, Bert Hands of Wayne City, Hibbard Hands of Peoria, and William L. Hands of Pana; three daughters, Mrs. Rella Wood and Mrs. Bernice Solomon, both of Wayne City, and Mrs. Doris Rector of Manteno; two brothers, Ross Hands of Hammon, Ind.; and Robert E. Hands of Granite City; 18 granchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
