  ELIZABETH (CARTER) SPICER



Elizabeth "Eliza" Carter Spicer

Obituary from Wayne County Newspaper 6/6/1935:
    
Eliza, daughter [sic] of Samuel and Eliza Carter, was born in Indian Prairie township May 3, 1850.   Her entire life has been spent near the place of her birth.   She was united in marriage January 1, 1870, with Daniel C. Spicer.   Ten children were born to this union, one son having died in infancy.  Almost fifty years ago during a tabernacle meeting at Johnsonville conducted by Rev. T.O. McMin she became a member of the General Baptist church at Round Prairie where she remained a faithful member throughout her life.   She was a faithful companion, an affectionate mother, a good neighbor and friend and was highly respected by all who knew her.  She passed away at the home of her daughter, Rosa Rogers, near Johnsonville, early Monday morning, May 27, 1935, age 85 years and 24 days.   She is survived by four sons, Herman Franklin, of Memphis, Tennessee, David of Fairfield; Elmer, of Johnsonville, and Edward of Aden; five daughters, Rosa Rogers, of Cisne; Della Bull, of Sims; Luella Hagaman, of St. Louis, Missouri; Mattie Miller, of East Alton, and Bertha Tibbs, of Akron, Ohio, twenty-four grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
    
Funeral services were conducted from the Round Prairie church, Tuesday morning, May 28, by the pastor, Rev. Jesse Miller, assisted by Eld. W. D. Crippin.  Interment was in the Hale cemetery.
